Haiku Heights: Tsunami

A break from haiku
creativity rushes
like a tsunami

Like a tsunami
advancing and receding
equal in power

Equal in power
the lonely tear of a child
and a tsunami

Haiku Heights: Pariha

All alone
"Little mama's boy"
A Pariah

A Pariah
"Bullies aren't cool"
All alone

It's time we parents
taught our kids the strong protect
the weak - not eat them.

In my house
we're tough enough
to wear pink

Haiku Heights: Owl

Owl lectures
Pooh's tummy rumbles
 "Oh bother"

A Wise Old Owl
Who Lived In An Oak
The More He Saw
The Less He Spoke
The Less He Spoke
The More He Heard
Take A Lesson
From That Wise Old Bird

Miss You Grandpa

Haiku Heights: Morning Mist

Wake to morning mist
dewy drops anticipate
sunshine's arrival

Sunshine's arrival
sharply cuts through morning mist
breathing in rainbows

Breathing in rainbows
exhaling complications
wake to morning mist

Kitty Ltter

Imagine someone you never met came to visit you and you offered to let him or her crash on the couch because they had some cool stuff they were willing to trade. After a few days they tell you that the couch bothered their back and they needed to use your bed. You let them with the understanding that once their back is feeling better they’d be back on the couch and in the mean time you would get to use their cool stuff.  The guest then tells you that the floorboard heat is inefficient, your wallpaper and carpet doesn’t match and insists that a big screen TV and a DVD player are much better than your old VHS and 21” model. You agree but claim you are comfortable with the way things are.

Your benevolent guest says no problem -- it’s on them.

Your guest has a group of people come and help with the free renovations. As the place fills up with plumbers, electricians and carpenters you give up the couch and move into the bathroom and make a cozy bed in the bathtub. I mean, it’s the least you could do after all the improvements this guest is providing. The gracious guest then offers to install a shower, replace your electric range with gas and remodel your kitchen cabinets. More people move in to assist with the renovations and you end up sleeping by the back door next to the kitty litter.

Once the place is completely renovated you go to use the new shower. Your guest stops you saying that the people that did the work should get first crack at it. By the time everyone is done you are left with no hot water. You try to get your bed back but are told you have a lot of nerve after all the work they did. At the end of the day you’re allowed only the corner of the house next to the kitty litter – as long as you don’t interfere with the operation of this efficient remodelled house and the people who now occupy it. You can still use the cool stuff but now you have to pay rent for it.

Now imagine that your great great grandchildren are still sleeping next to the kitty litter and taking cold showers.

The First Nations people in Canada have been taking cold showers next to the kitty litter for over a hundred and fifty years. The land has been subjected to industrial, agricultural and urban “improvements” to the point that they are no longer able to occupy it in the way they did in comfort before.

The fact that First Nations’ traditional life has been slowly eroded away by these improvements can perhaps be explained as a casualty of a changing world. The fact that the improvers still deny the original inhabitant of this great land rights to prosper and benefit from these improvements is just plain wring.

Respectfully, the Edge

A few well placed words ...

This weeks Trifecta is to write 33 words about advise.

The tux and I were both untucked.
Sitting behind reception hall reflecting.
Grandpa Jack appeared to be lost.
Covering for him I asked for advise.
"Peace in surrender my boy" he said and smiled.

Random Edge-ucation

This edition of Random Edge-ucation will mark the first since the creation of the new sister blog to Notes from the Edge - "Collateral Damn-edge".  Random Edge-ucation was created to discuss all things Edgy; therefore, I will be linking all future editions to "Collateral Damn-Edge" from this date forward.

http://pablohelguera.net/
The big news for all things Edgy is the creation of my new Blog "Collateral Damn-Egde". My
post The Edge of Creativity identifies the thinking and intention behind this new medium and has been posted on both Blogs."Collateral Damn-Edge" is for the more creative side of the Edge. Here I will post fictional writing and discuss topics that are too Edgy for "Notes from the Edge".

Collateral Damn-edge is loaded with double meaning and plays on words. The term Collateral Damage is damage to things that are incidental to the intended target. It is frequently used as a military term where it can refer to the incidental destruction of civilian property and innocent bystanders. It is the unintended consequences of our actions. In this case it refers specifically the consequences of that Damn Edge!

It is my intention to have fun with this Blog and Collateral Damage will hopefully be limited to the guilty bystanders.

In the spirit of Collateral Damn-Edge I have chosen one of my favorite Edgy Movie Clips as a bonus feature to this weeks edition of Random Edge-ucation.

Site Visits and Comments

I want to thank everyone who is contributing with their comments. Comments are really what bring a Blog to life and any thoughts you have on content is of great value. In some cases I may post your comments on both Blogs where appropriate.I am not sure what the impact of splitting my content up between two blogs will be on my Traffic - but really who cares. It would be great if my Blog was wildly popular and had a large following but that's not what this is about. We have managed to establish a small community of Humans that are trying to do "the next right thing". We have over 100 regular views on days that I post. Viewers seem to come from every corner of the world.

I count this as a great success.

Respectfully, from the Edge.
