You just don't listen boy.
You leave me no choice.
So you're gunna get what we got.
"What we got here is failure to communicate."
Those wild blues eyes
disguise what's not there.
No surprise you're dying
those lies are tearing you up inside
No surprise you're dying
those lies are tearing you up inside
"Sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand."
and why not paul...ha...i like the voice in this one too sam, kind of a rap rhythm to it as well
ReplyDeleteSo very sad when communication doesn't seem to be possible!!
ReplyDeleteI remember when he was that young.
ReplyDeleteGood choice, Sam. And I like your poem.
K
I like this poem even if it was not really from a movie. (I am not a big movie fan so you could have fooled me,). Such a feeling of sad cruelty in this.
ReplyDeleteNice work! How much we die inside because we fail to communicate.
ReplyDeleteWell done! I like the line you have chosen as well. I think one of the funniest things I ever heard on MPR was after Paul Newman's death, the radio host said something to the effect of "Those of us over 35 will remember him from his fine work in films. Those under 35 will remember him as the fictitious maker of the Fig Newman!" Thanks for posting to the out of standard and viva la!
ReplyDeleteSam, the title is one of Lex's favorite lines! (Of course, when you're married to ME, you have frequent occasions to... never mind!)
ReplyDeleteLove me some Newman. Class act, and he was never better than in Cool Hand Luke. Except for... oh hell, every other movie he did where he didn't smile and show his gums! You met this prompt with elan, sir. Amy
I remember Cool Hand Luke - the eggs- the defiance - those blue eyes…thank you for the reminder in this
ReplyDeleteI love the voice in your poem. There seems to be an abundance of "failure to communicate" these days.
ReplyDeleteClever Sam I really enjoyed your poem~
ReplyDeleteMy husband says this line often,
"What we got here is failure to communicate."
I like how you shared these lines and gave us more
to digest!
